Trompe L'Oeil
Pronounced "tromp loy" is a French term that translates as "fool the eye". This painting technique renders objects so realistically that observers are fooled into thinking the objects painted are real. Trompe l'Oeil, to be most effective, renders the subject of the painting actual size and it takes into account every detail. It requires that you observe your subject and its setting so minutely, that you can faithfully recreate a bunch of grapes in a way that makes it appear to be grapes rather than a painting of grapes -- three dimensional, looking good enough to eat! In the words of my Trompe l'Oeil master, learning this art form is the pursuit of excellence.
